Frequently asked questions

The basics

Does it include channels?

No. Owlo does not provide, sell or recommend content or lists. It is a player: you need your own M3U list or Xtream Codes account from a legal provider. See where to get a legal list.

What is an M3U list? And Xtream Codes?

An M3U list is a link or file with the addresses of the channels and videos your provider gives you. Xtream Codes is another way of delivering the same thing, with a server, username and password. Owlo supports both.

Does it work on my TV?

It’s in beta for Hisense and Toshiba with VIDAA, Samsung, LG and computer browsers. Android TV and Fire TV will come later. Brand by brand in Platforms.

Do you need my TV’s MAC address?

No. The TV links to your account when you scan a QR code with your phone. The licence belongs to the account, not the TV.

Account and TVs

How many TVs can I use?

Up to 5 TVs per account, plus your computer’s browser.

What happens if I change my TV?

Unlink the old one in your account and scan the QR code on the new one. You don’t pay again.

Can everyone have their own profile?

Yes. Each profile has its own avatar, language, favourites and “continue watching”. You can add a PIN, for example to the grown-ups’ profile if the kids use the TV.

Does it sync between devices?

Yes. Lists, profiles, favourites and “continue watching”, right to the second you left off.

I forgot my password

In your account, tap “Forgot your password?” and we’ll email you a link to choose a new one.

Can I pause or delete my account?

Yes, at the bottom of your account. Pausing stops playback on your TVs and keeps everything. Deleting erases your data, lists and profiles.

Playback

A channel won’t play

First check it works in another player: the stream comes from your provider, not from Owlo. If it works elsewhere but not in Owlo, email us with your TV’s brand and model.

It says “format not supported”

Some TV browsers can’t decode certain video or audio formats. Owlo opens more than the TV plays on its own, but when it can’t, it tells you instead of loading forever. It usually happens with HEVC streams or unusual audio.

Can I change the audio language or subtitles?

Yes, on movies and series that have several tracks: from the player menu.

Is there a TV guide?

Yes, “now / next” on live channels, if your provider offers it.

Price and data

How much does it cost?

Nothing during the beta. Afterwards: a 7-day trial with no card, then 12 a year or 2 a month for the whole household: in euros in the European Union and in US dollars elsewhere. Details in Pricing.

What do you do with my data?

We keep only what your account needs to work, with no tracking cookies. Your list details are stored encrypted. Details in Privacy.
